Night at the Museum – A journey through Baseball History

Wednesday, 10/07/2026

No more advance tickets are available.

Step into the dugout of America’s pastime with historical author Chris Epting for an unforgettable evening of untold baseball history – with a special focus on Orange County’s rich baseball heritage as he speaks at the Tustin Area Museum on October 7.

For instance, some 90 years ago, a patch near the intersection of Brea Boulevard and Lambert Road was a crude baseball diamond known locally as “Brea Bowl”.
“A lot of people don’t know that Hall of Famers Babe Ruth and Walter Johnson played right here on Halloween in 1924,” noted Epting.

Before the Angels arrived in Anaheim in 1966, two members of baseball’s first Hall of Fame class played an afternoon exhibition game in this former oil town in north Orange County.

Ruth led a team of his Babe Ruth All-Stars here as part of a postseason storming tour organized by the Anaheim Elks.

The players made their clubhouse and changed uniforms at the site of a nearby auto repair shop.

And then the California Angels played their first game in Orange County in 1966 and continues to be based there (though as the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim).

Many famous baseball players, including Babe Ruth and Jackie Robinson, have connections to Orange County. In addition, the area has produced numerous well-known players, contributing significantly to baseball culture.

A prolific writer, Chris has written over 50 books, including many local history books on a variety of themes. He has also penned a variety of biographies on unique personalities.

Chris will have copies of his new book available for purchase and to sign.

This Night at the Museum meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 7, from 7 to 8:30 pm at the Tustin Area Museum, 395 El Camino Real in Downtown Tustin. Tickets are $20 per person and $15 each for members.

Call the Museum at 714 731-5701 with any questions.
